Human misery: an object of consumption.

An A-Level Art student googles a Donovan Wylie
image to complete her sketchbook:
i’ve chosen this image because of the strong composition. i
like the makeshift shelves in the corner and the textures and
patterns in the image: the cork board, etc... it’s a bit like the
arte povera brief and i want to include textures and patterns
in my drawings and photos.
2.
A critic in a broadsheet reviews ‘Losing Ground’*:
.... Framed by woodcut irises, sunlight assaults her
gently. Asleep, blanket for a pillow, she’s some
Ophelia Rossetti would have painted.
3.
Anonymous leaves a comment in the visitor book
of Donovan Wylie’s exhibition:
Great exhibition! Well laid- out. The image of the young
man downing vodka as his girlfriend (?) lays asleep is
particularly striking.
